Ken Davies
a former Dean of Paier College Art,
has a new book published.

The book generously and elegantly reproduces the paintings with
exactitude and clarity. There is ample evidence, here, to support Davies’s
current status as a master of American realistic painting.

In this exhibit, Peter Bonadies is exploring, through a series of recent works, architectural forms whose structures have evolved or eroded over time. Working either from direct onsite observation or from an architectural reminiscence of a particular place, Bonadies is discovering a particular essence of each structure.
While some images represent a classical realism, using traditional printmaking techniques, many employ non-traditional and experimental plate etching and printing techniques. Bonadies depicts eroded surfaces and abstracted façades often with a foiling of the rules of perspective, combining more than one vantage point of a structure in a single image. Other images include biomorphic forms, or a combination of architectural and anatomical structures.
Intaglio prints are created by a combination of printing techniques using zinc or copper plates. The process of drypoint requires the incising the surface of zinc or copper plates with sharp pointed objects creating lines, which hold ink. The process of chemical etching exposes the plate to an acidic chemical solution, which erodes the surface of the metal plate to create the textures, which hold ink. With either process, ink is then spread over the plate to fill the engraved lines and depressions in the plate. The plate surface, or image-less area, is wiped clean allowing only the ink in the engraved depressions to remain. The plate is run through a rolling press to transfer the image onto dampened paper.
