Paier College of Art is a small family owned and operated Fine Art College located in Hamden Connecticut. Its size contributes to anyone working, attending or visiting the college to feel at home. People are treated individually, one on one and are not just a number. The officers, administration and faculty of Paier College practice an open door policy. Everyone from the President down to the part-time faculty is approachable and accommodating. This type of environment makes it easy for our students to ask questions, inquire about services, or register complaints. It is like one big family. Any occurrence of criminal activity or any type of emergency can be brought to any of the aforementioned individuals. Ultimately, the President or Vice-President of the college would be made aware of the situation and act upon it. A memo would be issued to all faculty, if necessary, to make them aware of the situation. That information would then also be passed onto the student body, either by the instructor or through the student council. The President is the individual responsible for the annual security report. The information contained in that report therefore, would be as comprehensive as possible. The campus of Paier College is relatively small. Quite simply, it is four buildings and a parking lot. There are no dormitory facilities and no off campus locations. The size of the campus strongly contributes to its safety and security. Nothing negative happens without word of it spreading rapidly. There is no daytime security force but the Hamden police have a quick response reputation. During evening hours, there is a night guard who is a former Hamden police officer. Although the campus is quire secure, students are always reminded to use common sense. At freshman orientation, students are reminded to lock cars in the parking lot and keep a close eye on personal belongings. They are also introduced to several of the key people within the administration, especially, the on campus Director of Counseling Services. After orientation, students are encouraged to attend the weekly student council meetings. The meeting times and dates are posted throughout the school. This is another forum to address any issues that concern students.
Paier College maintains a dry campus. Possession and/or the use of alcohol or drugs on campus or at any school functions is not allowed. This policy is strictly enforced by the administration. Drug free workplace documents are posted throughout the school advising all faculty and student of Paier College's drug free environment. The schools policy of being a dry campus in regard to alcohol is published in our catalog and our student handbook. The on campus Director of Counseling Services is responsible for drug and alcohol abuse education. The Director addresses substance abuse at freshman orientation and makes himself readily available for any future consultations.
Common sense prevails when reporting any incident of harassment, sexual or otherwise. Providing the instructor himself is not the source, it is to the instructor the student would report first. Should the matter not be dealt with satisfactorily or it is the instructor who stands accused, the next authority would be the Dean of the College. Should the party harmed wish not to make any official complaint or seek counsel anonymously, the college has a full time professional counselor on staff and he may be consulted at any time. Ultimately, the president of the college will hear all complaints, either specifically through channels as the complaint becomes formalized or unofficially from the counselor, alerting that there may be a problem worth clarifying. In any event, any accusations will be investigated and taken to whatever level necessary until resolved. Sexual harassment posters are posted at key student areas, which advise individuals of their rights and also give them information on who to contact if their rights have been violated.
